CENTRAL ASIA HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL MODERNIZATION PROJECT (CAHMP)
The Central Asia Hydrometeorological Modernization Project (CAHMP) was developed by the World Bank together with the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (EC IFAS) and entered into force in January 2012.
The main objective of the Central Asia Hydrometeorological Modernization Project (CAHMP) is to reduce the risks associated with adverse weather and climate events for people’s lives and for the economy by improving hydrometeorological and climate services for the economic development of the entire region.
The program includes funding for three components in the amount of $28 million, of which $26 million is funded by the World Bank and the remaining $2 million is a grant from the Global Fund for Disaster Risk Reduction and Response (GFDRR).
Components:
– Strengthening regional cooperation and information exchange;
– Improvement of hydrometeorological services in the Kyrgyz Republic;
-Improvement of hydrometeorological services in the Republic of Tajikistan;
The funding is also aimed at modernizing the methods of collecting and using weather information, new technologies that, within the framework of the project, make it possible to regularly observe and predict the weather and the availability of water resources throughout the region.
