At the invitation of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), Askhat Orazbay, took part in the annual Week of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), held in Ashgabat on 20–23 January 2026.
As part of the working visit, on 20 January 2026 the Head of the EC IFAS held meetings with the Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, T. Atakhallyev, who is a member of the IFAS Board, and B. Annamammedov. The parties held in-depth discussions on improving the organizational structure and the legal and regulatory framework of the Fund, as well as other important issues mandated by the Heads of State of Central Asia, including the upcoming meetings of the IFAS Board and the IFAS Summit scheduled to take place in Astana in March and April of this year.
On 21 January 2026, meetings were also held with the leadership of the State Committee for Water Management, the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.
