On June 14, 2024, at the office of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) in Astana, a meeting took place between the Chairman of the IFAS Executive Committee, Askhat Orazbay, and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Kaha Imnadze.
A. Orazbay emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation with the UNRCCA, including conducting seminars and roundtables for water experts from the five founding states of IFAS. He also proposed signing a memorandum of understanding between the Fund’s Executive Committee and the UN Regional Center on cooperation in the Aral Sea basin.
In turn, K. Imnadze also expressed confidence in the need to intensify and coordinate joint actions on a wide range of water sector issues within the mandate of both organizations, within the framework of PBAM-4 and the UNRCCA Plan for Regional Cooperation in Central Asia in the field of water, energy resources, and climate change for 2022-2025.
