On June 23, 2026, in Astana, Tashkent, Almaty, Kyzylorda, and Nukus, the second meeting of the Project Steering Committee titled “Water and Education: Fostering a Culture of Responsible Water Use and Conservation of Water Resources among Youth in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan” took place. The project is being implemented in the Syr Darya River basin on the initiative of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (within the project proposal “Water and Education: Promoting Water Conservation in Central Asian Countries” under the 4th Aral Sea Basin Program) and with financial support from the French Development Agency (AFD).
The practical implementation of the project is carried out by UNICEF offices in Astana and Tashkent, the Information and Analytical Center for Water Resources (Kazakhstan), and the International Innovation Center of the Aral Region (Uzbekistan), in cooperation with educational institutions, local communities, and government bodies.
During a constructive dialogue, the participants discussed the practical results of the project among children and youth in the Kyzylorda region and Karakalpakstan. They developed effective mechanisms for implementing initiatives at the local level to ensure their long-term sustainability.
The project makes a significant contribution to shaping an environmentally responsible generation and supports joint efforts to conserve water resources in the Aral Sea basin.
