Visit of CAREC Executive Director B. Mamedov to the Office of the Executive Committee of IFAS

On June 4, 2025, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC, Almaty), B. Mamedov, visited the office of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).

During the meeting, the parties discussed key areas of collaboration and outlined promising directions for future cooperation. Particular attention was given to enhancing CAREC’s participation in implementing project proposals under the Fourth Aral Sea Basin Program (ASBP-4) and the Regional Environmental Programme for Sustainable Development in Central Asia (REP4SD-CA)—both of which serve as strategic frameworks guiding IFAS activities until 2030.

The parties emphasized that strengthening the partnership between the two organizations is a vital component in advancing regional environmental initiatives. They expressed confidence that coordinated efforts and resource pooling would contribute significantly to improving the environmental and water management situation in Central Asia.

It is worth noting that prior to his appointment as CAREC Executive Director in May 2025, B. Mamedov headed the Secretariat of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (ICSD) of IFAS in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, and brings extensive experience in working with international partners.
