Meeting Held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea

Murat Nurtleu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, held a meeting with Askhat Orazbay, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).

During the meeting, issues related to the implementation of Kazakhstan’s priorities as the chairing country of IFAS and the schedule of upcoming events were discussed.

The Minister highlighted the crucial role of the Fund in developing and promoting a coordinated regional policy for the rational use of water resources, as well as in ecological and scientific-practical projects aimed at improving the environmental and socio-economic situation in the Aral region.

In this context, he emphasized Kazakhstan’s commitment to implementing the priorities of its chairmanship in IFAS, as approved by the President of Kazakhstan at the Organization’s Summit in Dushanbe in September 2023.

In turn, Askhat Orazbay informed about the current challenges facing the Fund, the activities of the IFAS Executive Committee in addressing the problems of the Aral Sea Basin, and the interaction with international partners on environmental protection and the rehabilitation of ecologically disadvantaged areas..
