Events Marking Aral Sea Day Held in Aralsk

The Executive Directorate of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in the Republic of Kazakhstan organized a series of events on April 9–10, 2026, in the city of Aralsk, Kyzylorda Region, dedicated to the traditional annual celebration of the Day of the Aral Sea.

The program included a chess tournament among labor veterans, an award ceremony for the winners and participants of a football tournament, as well as thematic drawing and video competitions among school students of the Aral district. An environmental campaign was also held, involving the planting of tree saplings with the participation of representatives of the district Akimat.

In the building of the “Aral” Geopark, a roundtable discussion was held on the topic “Development of tourism, science, and technology in the context of climate change in the Aral Sea region,” aimed at addressing current issues of adaptation and mitigation of climate change impacts. Mr. M. Bekniyazov, Chief Specialist of the Information and Analytical Department of the EC IFAS, presented initiatives by the countries to expand and strengthen cooperation in the Aral Sea basin.
