On 16 September 2025, the second meeting of the Water Pillar Working Group under the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program was held in a virtual format. The event was attended by representatives of Central Asian countries, regional institutions, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and technical assistance consultants.
Chairman of the EC IFAS A. Orazbay participated in the meeting and, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, outlining possible areas of engagement with ADB, including participation in the ASBP-4 and REP4SD CA projects.
ADB presented preliminary data on feasibility studies of potential regional projects, the results of modeling the interlinkages between water and energy resources, as well as proposals for technical assistance programs.
The participants discussed initiatives on the development of sustainable water infrastructure, digitalization, and transboundary water resources management.
The meeting was an important step towards strengthening regional coordination and preparing for the upcoming in-person meeting of the Working Group.
