On May 16, 2025, working consultations took place between representatives of the Executive Committee of the IFAS and the University of Oulu (Finland).
During the online meeting, the participants discussed potential areas of collaboration and agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations. The purpose of this memorandum is to establish cooperation aimed at addressing environmental and socio-economic challenges in the Aral Sea basin. Both parties expressed their intention to advance scientific knowledge, share data, and implement joint projects to promote sustainable development and mitigate the consequences of the environmental crisis.
Founded in 1958, the University of Oulu is one of the largest universities in Finland, with approximately 16,000 students and 2,800 staff members. This international research center is also engaged in studies related to the Aral Sea basin.
