Dushanbe, April 5, 2024 - Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) Askhat Orazbay held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Sulaymon Ziyozoda, who is also a member of the IFAS Board from the Tajik side.
During the meeting, the entire spectrum of IFAS’s current activities was thoroughly discussed, taking into account the transition of chairmanship from Tajikistan to Kazakhstan. The participants emphasized the increasing role of IFAS as a unique regional organization in the modern context of accelerating climate change processes. Attention was also drawn to the need to intensify efforts to improve the organizational structure and contractual legal framework of the Fund, as well as to implement the Action Program for Assistance to the Aral Sea Basin Countries until 2030 (ASBP-4).
Additionally, issues regarding the participation of the IFAS Executive Committee team in the 10th World Water Forum (May 18-24, 2024, Bali, Indonesia), including the sub-regional session “Transboundary Water Cooperation in the Aral Sea Basin for a Better Future”; the III International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” (June 10-13, 2024, Dushanbe); One Water Summit within the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23, 2024, and other events were discussed.
