Chairman of the EC IFAS Delivered a Statement at the 4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”

On 26–27 May 2026, at the invitation of the organizers, a delegation of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, headed by Chairman Mr. Askhat Orazbay, participated in the The Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development», 2018–2028, held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

The Head of the EC IFAS delivered a statement during the High-Level Officials’ Plenary Session, informing participants about the outcomes and key documents adopted at the Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the IFAS founding states, held on 22 April 2026 in Astana. He also highlighted the implementation of the Fourth Aral Sea Basin Program (ASBP-4) and other aspects of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship of IFAS during the period 2024–2026.

Particular attention was given to the Decision adopted by the Heads of State of the IFAS founding states on the establishment of 26 March as the International Day of the Aral Sea, the Amudarya and the Syrdarya Rivers. This initiative aims to broaden and strengthen cooperation among all stakeholders, including international development partners, throughout the Aral Sea Basin.

A number of bilateral meetings were also held to explore opportunities for cooperation with new international partners in support of activities in the Aral Sea Basin, including discussions with representatives of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
