Visit to the Pilot Site of the Project on the Adjustment of Hydro-Modular Zoning in the Syr Darya Basin

Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS Askhat Orazbay, Ambassador of the French Republic to the Republic of Kazakhstan Sylvain Guiaugué, and Head of the AFD Office in Kazakhstan Gulnoza Callens visited a pilot site of the project “Adjustment of Hydromodule Zoning of the Syrdarya River Basin” near the city of Kyzylorda.

The project is being implemented by the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Water Economy in Kazakhstan and the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (SIC ICWC) in Uzbekistan, with financial support from AFD and coordination by the Executive Committee of IFAS.

The participants were presented with preliminary research findings based on the application of satellite technologies, Earth remote sensing, and geographic information systems to assess actual agricultural water consumption and improve irrigation regimes. The project results are expected to contribute to more efficient use of water resources in the Syrdarya River Basin and to strengthen regional cooperation in the field of water management.
