On 23 April 2026 in Astana, within the framework of the Regional Environmental Summit 2026, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the IFAS , A. Orazbay, and the Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, H. Kluge, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations.
The signing of the Memorandum enables the EC IFAS, in cooperation with WHO, to develop a more integrated approach to addressing environmental challenges and improving the socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea basin, linking environmental and public health agendas. Cooperation will focus on assessing the impact of environmental factors on public health, preparing analytical materials, and introducing international practices in monitoring and response. Special attention is given to strengthening the resilience of healthcare systems in the context of environmental and climate challenges.
The signing of the document is in line with the strategic objectives of the EC IFAS to enhance the effectiveness of regional initiatives, expand international partnerships, and ensure practical, results-oriented outcomes for the population of the Aral Sea basin.
