On April 23, 2026, in Astana, within the framework of the Regional Ecological Summit–2026, the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (EC IFAS) took part in the panel session “Best Practices in Addressing Current Environmental, Socio-Economic and Water Issues in the Aral Sea Basin”, organized by Executive Directorate of the IFAS in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the session, Ms. S. Shalmaganbetova, Head of the Information and Analytical Department of EC IFAS, delivered a presentation on modern approaches to updating hydromodule zoning in the Syr Darya River basin. Key aspects of a grant project implemented in 2025–2026 with the support of the French Development Agency (AFD) were highlighted. Practical results of the project, based on the use of Earth remote sensing data for the territories of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, were presented by project experts Mr. P. Kalashnikov from the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Water Management and Mr. D. Kholikov from the Center for Space Monitoring and Geoinformation Technologies of Uzbekistan.
