On December 3, 2024, the "One Water” Summit took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During the opening ceremony, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the President of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, once again reminded the global community of the Aral Sea catastrophe from the high-profile platform.
The summit was initiated and organized by Kazakhstan, France, Saudi Arabia, and the World Bank Group.
The forum was attended by the Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS, A. Orazbay, and several heads of water management agencies from Central Asian countries that are members of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission (ICWC).
On the sidelines of the summit, Askhat Orazbay and Bertrand Walckenaer, Deputy Director General of the French Development Agency (AFD), discussed prospects for cooperation, including the implementation of pilot projects in the countries of the Aral Sea basin. These projects align with the goals and objectives of the Action Program to Assist the Countries of the Aral Sea Basin until 2030 (ASBP-4).
