The National Commission for Irrigation and Drainage of the Republic of Tajikistan held the 14th International Drainage Seminar on "Modernization of Irrigation and Drainage Systems for Climate Change Adaptation and Sustainable Development" in Dushanbe from May 30 to June 1, 2024.
The seminar was opened with welcoming speeches by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sulaimon Rizoi Ziyozoda, the President of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage Mr. Marco Arcieri, representatives of international development partners and donor organizations.
Leading experts in the field of irrigation and drainage from around the world participated in the seminar and exchanged their experiences on current issues in this field, as well as on the “Nexus” approach, which considers the interconnection of water, food, energy, and ecosystem protection, along with enhancing the capacity of young professionals and gender aspects.
The Executive Committee of IFAS actively participated in this process and proposed signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage.
