А roundtable for water management ministers on the topic “Achieving Greater Efficiency in Water Use in the Central Asian Region”

On June 12, 2024, in Dushanbe, the IFAS Executive Committee and the Central Asia Water and Energy Partnership team led by the World Bank (CAWEP) organized a roundtable for water management ministers on the topic “Achieving Greater Efficiency in Water Use in the Central Asian Region.” The event was held as part of the 3rd High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028.

The goal of the event was to discuss potential regional projects for investment with the ministers.

The Chairman of the IFAS Executive Committee, Askhat Orazbay, thanked the World Bank and other international IFAS partners for their support in implementing the PBAM-4 projects aimed at improving the situation in the Aral Sea basin. He urged the heads of water management agencies of Central Asian countries to participate more actively in the work to improve the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS. He also voiced several important regional initiatives.

Speakers at the event, including World Bank officials, Ministers D. Juma (Tajikistan), Sh. Khamraev (Uzbekistan), Vice-Minister N. Aldamzharov (Kazakhstan), and representatives from Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan, called for enhanced cooperation and consideration of additional investment in new regional projects.
