A. Orazbay Discussed Environmental and Social Challenges of the Aral Sea Region with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities

Astana, September 18, 2025 – Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, A. Orazbay, held a meeting with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, K. Kamp.

The discussions focused on the impact of the Aral environmental disaster on the socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea Basin. Particular attention was given to the conditions of the population living in the Priaralie area, who face severe environmental and climate challenges.

A. Orazbay briefly outlined the implementation process in Central Asian countries of the Fourth Aral Sea Basin Program (ASBP-4) and the Regional Environmental Program for Sustainable Development in Central Asia (REP4SD-CA). EC IFAS and OSCE representatives expressed their readiness to cooperate within the mandates of the two organizations on projects related to regional cooperation in the Aral Sea Basin.
